Calcium Lactate Pentahydrate I.P. 300mg

 

INTRODUCTION

Calcium is required for normal growth and development as well as maintenance of the skeleton. Calcium deficiency results in the weakening of the bones, frequent fractures. There is an increased need for calcium during adolescence growth and in old age. It is particularly vital for pregnant and lactating women and women around menopause.

 

COMPOSITION

Each uncoated tablet contains:

Calcium Lactate Pentahydrate I.P. 300mg

 

DESCRIPTION

A white circular, biconvex, uncoated tablet with grayish brown spots and having monogram on one side.

 

CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY

Calcium is absorbed predominantly from the small intestine by active transport and passive diffusion. Absorption is increased in calcium deficiency and during the periods of high physiological requirement such as childhood or pregnancy and lactation. Excess calcium is excreted renally. Unabsorbed calcium is eliminated in the faeces. Minor amounts are lost in the sweat, skin, hair and nails. Calcium crosses the placenta and is distributed into breast milk.

 

INDICATIONS

Dr. Meyer’s Calcitone is beneficial

  • As dietary calcium supplement to meet the increased demand of calcium during adolescent, pregnancy, lactation, during and after menopause, old age, general debility.
  • Treatment of hypocalcaemia
  • Prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis

 

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

As directed by the Physician.

 

CONTRA-INDICATIONS

Dr. Meyer’s Calcitone tablet is contraindicated during hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, patients with kidney stone.

 

INTERACTIONS

Dr. Meyer’s Calcitone tablet shows interactions, like it decreases the absorption of tetracycline, bisphosphonates, fluoride, flouroquinolones etc. it enhances cardiac effects on digitalis glycoside and may precipitate digitalis intoxication.

 

WARNING

Individuals with renal impairment, hypercalcemia, and associated diseases should use Dr. Meyer’s Calcitone tablets only under medical supervision.

 

PRECAUTIONS

Precaution should be taken in patients with renal calculi or failure and in persons hypersensitive to the drug.

 

ADVERSE REACTIONS

No serious adverse reactions are associated with the use of Calcium lactate tablets. However, some users may experience slight disturbance of the gastro intestinal tract such as flatulence, constipation etc.

 

DRUG ABUSE AND DEPENDENCE

Not applicable.

 

SYMPTOMS OFOVERDOSE AND ANTIDOTE

Excessive amounts of calcium may lead to hypercalcaemia, symptoms of hypercalcemia may include anorexia, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, kindly consult with your physician in case of overdose.
